Cregg and I yet again tripped back over the hills to have another crack at this enormous ex-Catholic seminary… It turned out to be one of those beautiful, blustery Autumnal morning's after our near suicidal method of entry in near darkness.
My first encounter with this superb old complex of buildings was in 2010 and we’ve visited numerous times since with varying results. Usually the story was that we’d not get very far inside before being turfed off site, finding it all sealed, setting off the brain invading alarm etc…
So, almost a year since our last foray inside, we were in once again, this time managing to spend enough time inside to cover significant ground. We still missed a lot though due to being scared of keeping on setting off the frankly horrific alarm.
Historywise, the Seminary has been empty since 1991 and the buildings have been the subject of planning applications for residential conversion. Nothing of the like seems to be anywhere near mobilisation and I wonder if anything will ever be done to reinstate any sort of usage?
The internal damage and degradation is getting steadily worse, with an entire bay of the roof in the spiral staircase library completely collapsed, masonry and all.
